Ps 104:34
My meditation of him shall be sweet: I will be glad in the Lord.
We are experts in imagination. Our minds effortlessly wander to and fro while we perform daily duties, sit under anointed preachers, and converse one with another. Without being conscious of it, we permit our imagination to dwell on the past and venture into the future. Most often, it is filled with thoughts about work, play, finances, relationships, entertainment, and other like subjects that are rooted in the temporal realm. Our contemplations tend to tether us to the world and its systems, where time takes the preeminence over eternity and the visible seizes priority over the invisible. No doubt the Psalmist had pressing concerns vying for position in his mind, yet He saw the value in higher thinking. There is no higher thought, no thought more satisfying and energizing, than the thought that is fixed on God. The mind knows fear and anxiety, anger and greed, but is rarely accustomed to the absolute peace that comes through meditating on the Prince of Peace. All the clamor can be quieted, the nerves stilled. Thinking on the Eternal God will put time and its demands into right perspective and open our eyes to higher realities. Wearied minds make for wearied bodies, but the mind stayed on God produces gladness and strength. Trade vain imaginations for sweet meditation. Cut the tether and let your mind rise to heavenly places where righteousness, peace, and joy prevail.
